Eating in New York with Laura and Dev

I took a long weekend to visit Mari and Evan in New Haven. It worked out great because I could take a day and a half off and Mari was in Connecticut for her spring break. The weather even cooperated, mostly. We had two sunny days for hiking the neighboring hills even though Sunday was quite chilly. Crazy enough, DC got another snowstorm Sunday night and Monday morning! Hard to believe as I write this from Evan's computer in calm if cloudy New Haven. Fortunately it doesn't seem to have fazed Amtrak so my 4 pm train should return me home just fine.

Mari, Evan, and Kuma left at 10 this morning to drive to South Bend because Mari has class tomorrow. Notre Dame only had a week of spring break unlike Yale's generous two. This gives me a chance to update my blog for the rest of your. Good thing because if I had to get home first you might not see the updates for a while. And you should...be prepared to drool!

Actually the tale begins even before New Haven. I caught the afternoon bus from Bethesda to New York City and met Laura and Dev for dinner. We checked a couple of Korean options and ended up with chicken wings at Kyochon after rejecting the places with an hour wait. When there are a dozen restaurants in a block I can't imagine anyone's food is worth waiting an hour for! Nice place (despite the spaceship decor), they just do one thing--Korean fried chicken--and do it really well. We had both flavors, soy-garlic and sweet and spicy, with a nice big broccoli salad. Great dinner after being stuck in traffic an extra hour and a half waiting to get through the Lincoln Tunnel.

Broccoli salad is a new favorite.

A half-eaten plate of sweet-spicy wings. You can see the broccoli salad to the side. Sorry but we dove in before stopping to photograph.
Here's the logo off their napkin so you can find them.

I'll break this off for now and continue in the next post.
